A journey of faith, growth, and God's faithfulness since 2009
Founded by Bishop Shawn Lewis
Rhema Word Ministries was born from a vision given by God to Elder Shawn Lewis. With humility and complete dependence on God's grace, he stepped out in faith to establish a ministry that would be a light for others.
What began with 22 faithful members at the Steven Kent Hotel has grown into a thriving community of believers. Through every relocation and challenge, the ministry has remained steadfast in its commitment to God's Word.
On August 10, 2013, Pastor Lewis was consecrated as Bishop, a recognition of God's calling and the spiritual authority entrusted to him for leading this ministry.
Our Journey
The Beginning
Rhema Word Ministries was founded in July 2009 by Elder Shawn Lewis in Petersburg, Virginia. The vision was given by God to create a place where His Word would be preached and His people would be equipped.
First Gatherings
The first meetings were held at the Steven Kent Hotel with 22 initial members. Though humble, the congregation was filled with faith and expectation.
Growth & Relocation
As the congregation grew, the church moved to several locations to accommodate the growing number of believers who called Rhema Word Ministries home.
Bishop Consecration
On August 10, 2013, Pastor Shawn Lewis was consecrated as Bishop, recognizing his spiritual leadership and the growth of the ministry.
Our Church Home
In 2019, the church purchased and renovated its current building at 1870 Grimes Road, Petersburg, VA - a permanent home for worship and fellowship.
